City Fit Fest "Work Your Words Out - Journaling to Free Your Mind"
Today, I was fortunate enough to put on a journaling workshop at City Fit Fest in San Francisco, and boy was I nervous! Honestly, though. I was NERVOUS, you guys. I'm not gonna say I cried a little before but I cried a little before...
I think often times we try to hide our nerves with smiles...
Now this isn't necessarily bad really, and I think many times can be beneficial to get you through moments of anxiety. However, I believe that if we aren't willing to face our nerves/fears first, we could be missing out on some crucial lessons there. Questions like, "Why am I nervous?" or "What am I really so scared of?" force us to deal with our not so noticeable demons... and ultimately free ourselves from negative thought patterns.
Harnessing the opportunity to grow through vulnerability by asking ourselves these tough questions and writing down the honest answers (keyword: HONEST) shows us three things: who we really are, who we want to be, and how to get there. Talk about organizing your brain, right!?
That's why I'm such a huge fan of deep, intentionally vulnerable journaling and I recommend it to all my clients. Transformation happens, growth happens, self-awareness happens, on the other side of our comfort zone.
I'm so honored to have been a part of City Fit Fest and make some amazing new connections with like-minded people! If you weren't able to make it or were at the festival and signed up for my newsletter, here is a copy of the "30 Days to Free Your Mind" journal prompts that I came up with to help you dig DEEP, push THROUGH your mental blockages, and develop a meaningful and loving relationship with your TRUE self. It may not be easy, but I promise you it will be worth it.
How to:
Set aside 10 or more minutes for your journaling session. Making sure you block off time for this is what allows you to focus but also to develop a habit rather than just a casual one time thing.
Have your journal and pen(cil) ready and get comfy! Take 3 deep breaths, close your eyes, and get present. After the third exhale, set an intention or affirmation for your session. I like to say, "I am honest with myself. I am open. I am courageous." This is meant to be a promise to yourself, an aim, a plan (fun fact: the word "intention" in medicine means the healing process of a wound. Now isn't that fitting?)
When you begin to journal, feel yourself getting closer to your uncomfortable about and push yourself a little harder. See what arises. Applaud yourself for digging deeper when you do, and remind yourself that you are worthy of living your BEST life.
Let me know how you do any of these questions resonated with you more than the others!
BIG love,
Leah
